Tractionhobby RAM 1500 1/8 RC Car

After a long wait, Tractionhobby’s blockbuster new release — the RAM 1500 — has finally made its official debut!
I still remember seeing its prototype at last year’s Beijing Expo. Tractionhobby has truly lived up to the expectations of players and fans — the moment I held the real car in my hands, every bit of waiting felt worthwhile. Now, let’s dive into the key details of this machine.

Appearance & Dimensions

The first impression of the RAM 1500 is simple: massive.
Placed on a table, it stretches beyond both ends. The overall length exceeds 700mm, with a 463mm wheelbase, 222mm track width, and a hefty 10.6kg net weight. This scale is nothing short of colossal.

Battery Compartment & Power

Removing the RAM 1500’s body shell reveals a super-sized battery bay.
In testing, Gens Ace 6400mAh 3S and 6000mAh 4S batteries fit with ease. Special thanks go to Gens Ace for sponsoring the batteries in this video — “No Gens Ace, No RC” is no exaggeration.

The RAM 1500 supports 2S–4S batteries. The higher the voltage, the more powerful the performance.

Features & Controls

True to Tractionhobby’s style, the RAM 1500 offers exceptional playability:

  • High/Low Speed Modes: Controlled by a rotary switch. Turn counterclockwise to the end for low speed, the middle is neutral, clockwise to the end for high speed.
  • Drive Modes: Three-position toggle, switching between front-wheel, four-wheel, and rear-wheel drive.
  • Differential Locks: Front and rear diffs can be locked or unlocked independently at any time.

Innovative Structure

Unlike the F150, the RAM 1500 eliminates the rear bed’s “cover box.” Why?
Because it features an innovative horizontal shock absorber design!
With a triple-link system that translates vertical force into horizontal force, the suspension maintains performance while greatly freeing up the rear bed space. The result: enhanced realism without sacrificing practicality.

Lighting System

Once powered on, the most striking feature is its lighting system:

  • Daytime Running Lights: LED strips rival those of real vehicles.
  • High-Mounted Brake Light & Tail Lights: Gorgeous when illuminated.
  • Fog Lights: Activated by Tractionhobby’s signature “triple-tap steering” method.
  • Turn Signals & Hazard Lights: Double-tap to change DRL color or activate hazards; turn signals work independently even with hazards on.
  • Brake & Reverse Lights: Brake lights activate when throttle is released; reverse lights illuminate in reverse gear.

The attention to detail is impressive, with nighttime effects that are simply stunning.

Details & Accessories

On the outside, the RAM 1500 comes with metal wheels for maximum realism.
Additionally, Tractionhobby includes a bonus set of wider tires — same diameter as stock but wider tread for improved performance.

The front-end detailing is especially noteworthy: a bold RAM logo, tow hook mounts, air vents, finely crafted lights, side badges, door handles, foldable mirrors… every element shows Tractionhobby’s dedication to authenticity. This is truly the benchmark for soft-shell RC trucks.

Power & Configurations

Tractionhobby offers two versions of the RAM 1500:

  • Brushed Version: $999.99 — powerful enough for scale realism and casual performance.
  • Brushless Version: $1099.99 — equipped with a Hobbywing 8-in-1 ESC system, delivering stronger, smoother, and more responsive power.

Conclusion

From detailing and functionality to realism and lighting, the RAM 1500 comes impressively close to hard-shell scale trucks in refinement. Aside from non-opening doors, it leaves little to criticize.
At this price point, a truck of this size and completeness is truly worth every penny.

Currently, the RAM 1500 is available in Blue, China Red, and Silver. The unit shown in this Review is the Blue version, but all three look stunning.
